The Cambridge Art Association (CAA) offers a variety of programs for both visual artists and art lovers.

  • Programs, hosted in-person and online, for visual artists working in all media, and at all levels
  • An annual Portfolio Review weekend, hosted each Spring
  • Membership Programs, including member networking events and Affinity Groups for artists.

Squarespace for Artists

Tuesdays, March 5, 12, 19 , 26 & April 2, 9 (6-8pm)

This intensive, hands-on course will guide you in creating your own professional artist website with a beautiful design, clean and compelling content, with shopping cart option. Squarespace is a powerful, easy-to-use web platform designed with artists and creative entrepreneurs in mind. This is a great workshop for people who already have a Squarespace site but want to learn more Squarespace skills, or need some extra guidance in getting started. 


Materials and Methods in Contemporary Mixed Media
with Lynn Sisler

Wednesdays, 4/3, 4/10, 4/17, 4/24, 5/1, 5/8, 5/15, 5/22 (7-9pm)

$320 CAA Member; $350 General Admission

In this eight-week online course, students will be guided by instructor Lynn Sisler through an exploration of various mixed-media tools, mediums and techniques. Teaching from her own artist studio, Sisler will guide students through the concepts of design, composition, mark-making, and color in a visual journal, on paper, and on canvas.


Free Form Hand Embroidery
with Jennifer Lamontagne Kirwin

Saturdays, April 6 & 13 (12-2pm)
at the Kathryn Schultz Gallery
$90 CAA Member; $110 General Admission

In this eight-week online course, students will be guided by instructor Jennifer Lamontagne Kirwin. Break free from embroidery patterns and begin to compose complex embroidery art using a variety of stitches, threads, and materials. This workshop is designed for participants who have some prior knowledge of embroidery (comfortable with satin stitches, running stitches, and french knots).

Art Business Online Meet-up
with Gayle Mahoney

Tuesdays, April 16, 23, 30 & May 7, 14, 21 (6-7pm)
on Zoom
$75 CAA Member; $85 General Admission

This weekly one-hour session provides an opportunity for artists to discuss challenges, ask questions, and share ideas about the business side of art. Session themes will include such topics as “Submitting to Galleries,” “Creating and Editing your Portfolio,” “Pricing your Work,” etc. (students will help select the topics). The end of each session will include time for artists to ask me anything about art and business.


Photography and Visual Stories: A Discussion with Astrid Reischwitz and Sarah Malakoff

Please join Cambridge Art Association’s (CAA) Spring Art Party on May 10, 2024 from 6-9pm at The Hive (located at 650 E. Kendall Street, Cambridge, MA). This annual fundraiser celebrates celebrates the regional arts community while raising crucial funds to support access to the visual arts for artists and arts supporters. The CAA’s 2024 Spring Art Party will honor dedicated community members, and will recognize the first recipients of a new Emergency Fund for Visual Artists. 


Public Speaking for Visual Artists

When someone asks, “What’s your art about,” does your mind suddenly go blank with your artist pitch? Or are you nervous about an upcoming artist talk? Curator and wordsmith Chenoa Baker, who has facilitated, presented, and lectured on a wide variety of topics shares some of her strategies for success in public speaking in a way that all the participants join in and can learn from each other.


Advanced Cyanotypes with Susan Murie

Do you know how to make cyanotypes and you’re ready to take your creativity to the next level? In this class your instructor , artist Susan Murie, will share her methods for adding layers, tone and color to your prints. We will work with toning, painting and exposure techniques.  Bring your ideas for a creative and fun session!


Email Marketing for Artists

Tuesday, May 28 & Thursday, May 30 (6-8pm)

Adding email marketing to your art toolkit is a great way to cultivate a deeper, more consistent relationship with your fans and collectors, as well as broadening your audience! In the first session, Gayle will give you an overview (plus pros and cons) of some popular email marketing platforms and provide strategies for building and managing your email lists. In the second session, you will discuss ideas for creating email content, and Gayle will help troubleshoot issues you may be having in setting up your templates and sending your emails.
