ABOUT Shipping up to Boston

CAA is calling on artists across New England to “ship up to Boston” and show us what this city—and this region—means to you! Whether you’ve called New England home your whole life, or you’ve just moved in, this is your chance to channel your inner Bostonian and share your vision.

We’re looking for work that captures the grit, spirit, and character of New England life—its history, its neighborhoods, its coastlines, its voices, its culture.

This call is open to artists 18 and older, and based in New England, to submit. All visual media will be considered (2D, 3D, video). Artwork will be installed at the CAA @ Canal Gallery (650 E Kendall), and all works must not exceed 60 inches on the longest side.

About the Juror

Regina Parkinson

Regina Parkinson is a professional arts administrator and Executive Director of Arts Collaborative Medford. Before joining ACM, she was the Curation and Exhibitions Manager at Artists for Humanity in Boston, where she curated exhibitions featuring teen and alumni artists, alongside nonprofit partners, to engage community stakeholders. Previously in New Orleans, she co-founded the Lucky Art Fair, a large-scale contemporary public event showcasing 30+ artists with over 2,000 visitors across two weekends. She also honed her arts administration skills at Art Klub and Brand New Orleans Art Gallery.

Juror Statement

Shipping Up To Boston is an exhibition that encapsulates the unspoken charm of this city and the people of New England. In interpreting the theme, I had my eye out for works that reflect the grit that it takes to survive the four strong seasons, the beauty that keeps us here, and the community we build together. Whether through wit, weathered textures, familiar landscapes, or the voices of our neighborhoods, these works capture the character of a place that is both proud of its past and always forging its own path forward. We are a city with room for everyone, we are a city that embraces change, and we will not give up the wit and humor that makes this place what it is.
