Glimmer

Glimmer

May 13 – June 26, 2026

Curator and Artist Tour | Thursday, May 14,  5-6pm at the Kathryn Schultz Gallery

Opening Reception |  Thursday, May 14 from 6-8pm at the Kathryn Schultz Gallery & CAA @ University Place

Juried by Jessica Roscio, Director and Curator, Danforth Art Museum at Framingham State University

About Glimmer | Glimmer is open to all New England artists 18+ and welcomes work that explores illumination in its many forms. Submissions may engage with literal light and luminosity – shimmer, reflection, radiance – or with metaphorical illumination that speaks to emotional insight – social and political awareness, spiritual presence, or imaginative possibility. Whether subtle or striking, these works invite viewers to pause and notice what shines through.

All visual media will be considered, including 2D, 3D, and video. Artwork will be installed at the CAA’s Kathryn Schultz Gallery (25 Lowell Street) and CAA @ University Place Gallery (124 Mount Auburn Street) in West Cambridge. Artists cannot choose which location their piece will be exhibited.

Juror Statement

I was honored to be asked to jury Glimmer for the Cambridge Art Association. Jurying an exhibition gives one the opportunity to glimpse into how artists are responding to the world in real time. These days we are unsettled, with an ever-flowing current of anxiety that does not seem to be letting up, and that fuels the artwork being created. This is one reason I was intrigued by the theme of “glimmer” for this exhibition. Glimmer can imply many things, from the narrow to the explosive, and this is seen in the diversity of works on view.  A glimmer is an abstraction. It suggests a brief movement, a sense of mystery, or an inkling of hope, but it is more feeling than form. However, to glimmer is also perilously close to glitter, those tiny specks of color that once unleashed cannot be contained, and bring joy and frustration in equal measure.

There are a number of works in the exhibition that literally shine brightly. Each work on view illuminates and shimmers in its own way, providing sparks of light in dark spaces. I would like to thank all of the artists who submitted for offering us their sense of glimmer, however they define it.
