JUROR’S STATEMENT

The field of printmaking has grown remarkably diverse, now encompassing a wide range of mixed media and experimental photographic techniques. This inclusiveness stretches the definition of the medium—evident in the invitation to cyanotype artists to submit their work to this exhibition. I am not a stickler about what constitutes printmaking; in fact, I relish pushing these boundaries in my own artistic practice. This evolution makes printmaking more compelling and relevant within contemporary art discourse and practices, though it does present unique challenges when jurying a show.

As a juror, I needed to balance recognizing individual excellence while considering the overall cohesion of the selected works. My task was to craft an exhibition that feels both varied and unified. With so many outstanding submissions, narrowing down the final selection was a difficult process.  Obviously, creating a cohesive exhibition inevitably means that wonderful work must be excluded.

I hope this exhibition successfully reflects the innovation, complexity, and vibrant spirit of contemporary printmaking. Serving as a juror has been both an honor and a meaningful opportunity to celebrate the rich diversity of artistic expression in this field.
