Celebrate the countdown to CAA DAY with community-centered events celebrating the 650+ artists in our community. In 2021, community support allowed the Cambridge Art Association to expand our staff, and open a temporary space at the new Charles River Speedway, focused on showcasing affordable artworks and objects created by local artists. At The Speedway Gallery, CAA launched a new Print + Work on Paper Program, focused on unframed original and reproduction works, as well as a shop featuring pottery, notecards, books, and wearable items. And, new community partnerships grew in the space, including a monthly Arts & Drafts event at Notch Brewing.
This experiment across the river allowed CAA to augment our offerings at our Kathryn Schultz Gallery, and provided a new outlet for exhibitions and sales in the absence of our longtime gallery at University Place in Harvard Square. CAA Day 2022 is dedicated once again to celebrating our vibrant community of artists and makers, and to raising crucial funds to bridge the gap created by the ongoing closure of University Place Gallery and other COVID-related financial impacts.
Leading up to CAA Day, we are hosting daily activities centering our community of artists. All events are free and open to all:
Tuesday, May 17:
- Arts & Drafts with Stephanie Todhunter, 6:30-8:00pm at Notch Brewing (Charles River Speedway) SIGN-UP
Wednesday, May 18:
- Members-Only Event – Instagram 101, with Margaret Sheldon at The Speedway Gallery, 11:00am-noon SIGN-UP
- Closing reception for In the Presence of Trees, at the Kathryn Schultz Gallery, 6:00-8:00pm SIGN-UP
Thursday, May 19:
- Studio Hop, at Joy Street Studios, 1:00-3:00pm SIGN-UP
- Make a Travel Sketchbook, with Gwen Chasan, 3:00-4:00pm at The Speedway Gallery SIGN-UP
Friday, May 20: CAA Day!
- Panel Discussion: What’s the Story with NFTs? 7:00-8:15pm on ZOOM SIGN-UP
Fundraising goal: $22,000
Friend-raising goal: 22 new members – join CAA as an Associate Member between May 13 and May 20, and save 20% off of your dues in the first year! The discount will be applied automatically.
- Make a donation, in any amount! Every dollar supports CAA’s continued commitment to build a more equitable future for all members of the visual arts community, through exhibition opportunities, professional development programming, and networking opportunities.
- Donors at the $500 level and up will be invited to attend a special evening of interactive art-making, to be held on June 8, 2022 at The Speedway Gallery.

- Attend an event! CAA is hosting a series of events in the week leading up to CAA Day to celebrate our community of 650+ visual artists!
