Throwback Thursday

Jul 12, 2018

The Cambridge Art Association is celebrating its ‘Face to Face’ show tonight (Thursday, March 14th) at the Kathryn Schultz Gallery!

Arlette Kayafas, Kayafas Gallery, was our juror for this fantastic show.

I want to thank the Cambridge Art Association for the opportunity to jury the Face to Face exhibition.   I thoroughly enjoyed the process and the experience of looking closely at the variety of works and mediums.  A special thank you to the artists for sharing their work with me.
My challenge was to select objects and images which defined the theme and together made a strong statement.  From the 106 submissions, I chose 38 pieces.

I kept asking myself, what does Face to Face mean?  Is it to face yourself, face your past, face a partner, face the truth, face a wrong that needs to be righted?  Was the answer a more literal definition or could it be more abstract?  As I asked these questions, the art took on new meaning and relationships between the works developed– the resulting visual definition was formed.  The exhibition is my understanding of Face to Face, and I hope you see the relationships as the parts come Face to Face with each other.”

Arlette selected three ‘Juror’s Choices’ for the awards, which will be given tonight (Thurs. March 14th) at 7:00pm.
